Airport charges have been increased in Dutch airport

According to IATA, the proposed charge increase of 37% may cause severe damage to traffic resumption in the Netherlands. The IATA index shows that passenger traffic at local airports represents a 35 % decrease above the 2019 figures.
Position of defenders contrasts sharply with the position taken by independent regulators in other countries. In Spain, the regulator rejected the claims of the airport that it should be compensated for his loss from the pandemic: Airport Schiphol is in a similar situation. Dividends paid before the pandemic were amounted to 742 million euros for 2015-2019 as meaning alternative options are quite sufficient. Therefore, Schiphol can easily fund short-term losses in a cost-neutral manner.
“Schiphol Airport and its regulator have not taken into account the exceptional circumstances that have been created by COVID-19. The cost recovery system can not be implemented when there is no demand for an extended period of time owing to government-imposed travel restrictions. Therefore, it would not be reasonable to impose the increase of 37 % upon all the airlines and their passengers. There are other costs, including rising environmental fees, causing excessive damage to Dutch aviation,” Raphael Schwartzman said, the IATA Regional Vice President for European region.
