EASA cancels cargo transportation in aircraft cabins

As the European aviation market (outside Russia, Belarus and Ukraine) has normalized, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) declared the end of the temporary permit for the carriage of goods in the cabins of passenger aircrafts. The permit will expire on July 31, 2022.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, when almost all long-haul passenger flights were canceled, EASA decided to support the logistics of medical products by allowing cargo to be carried on the main deck of airliners. Such exceptional permits have been issued since October 2020 for a limited period. The restrictions are dictated by the fact that the passenger cabins do not meet the cargo standards in several important parameters - primarily on fire safety.
“As a result of reviewing the operational context of cargo transportation, the agency concluded that the logistical difficulties that had arisen in 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis no longer exist,” EASA stated. Therefore, previously allowed exceptions will no longer be extended from July 31, 2022.
According to EASA, cargo capacity on passenger flights will be increased in summer schedule 2022, thereby reducing a pressure on supply chains.
