IATA has developed a special methodology for calculating CO2 emissions based on passenger's weight. This methodology is the most accurate of all currently existing, allowing to determine the CO2 emissions per passenger for each flight, as reported by Tengritravel.kz.
“The methodology is available for organizations and individuals to make an informed choice regarding the sustainable flights, including voluntary carbon offsets or sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The IATA Passenger CO2 Emissions Calculation Methodology is the most credible tool, which is ready for use by airlines, travel agents and passengers", Willie Walsh said, the IATA CEO.
According to IATA, there are different methodologies for determining carbon emissions with varying results, thereby creating confusion and undermining consumer confidence. At the same time, aviation aims to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
