Cathay Pacific will operate the world's longest flight

Cathay Pacific will soon operate the world's longest commercial flight by rerouting its scheduled flights from Hong Kong to New York across the Atlantic region instead of following its usual route over the Pacific.

The new Cathay transatlantic route is 16,668 kilometers. This distance is longer than the distance of current record holder - a flight between Singapore and New York, which is 15,343 kilometers. According to Cathay Pacific, the main reason for the rerouting is the favorable wind direction instead of political turbulence in Europe. The latest Airbus A350-1000 is capable of operating many hours in comfort with the similar fuel consumption.

It should be noted, the flight from Hong Kong to New York is not the first contender for the longest flight in the world. Last week, two new announcements were made regarding new ultra-long-haul flights. Air New Zealand's 17-hour non-stop flight between Auckland and New York's Kennedy Airport will be operated in September 2022, while Qantas' direct flight from Melbourne to Dallas will be operated in December.
