Finnair downsize staff

The closure of Russian airspace for European carriers has touched the Finnair, whose business model is based on long-haul flights between Europe and Asia transiting over Russia.
Finnair held a session with crew union representatives to discuss a possible staff reduction or forced leave lasting up to 90 days. Such measures are associated with a reduced flight program. The ongoing negotiations concern the entire flight crew of Finland: 2.8 thousand employees. Besides, the management will have to decide how to deal with employees based in cities who will be affected by the new flight program.
“Since the Russian airspace is closed, Finnair will be operating rarely. Most our employees have been on long forced leave during the pandemic, and latest cuts are particularly severe actions. We deeply regret about this”, Jaakko Schildt said, the Chief Operating Officer of the company.
