Kazakhstan regional airline Qazaq Air carried more than 570 thousand passengers in 2021, which is 32% higher than in 2020 (432 thousand passengers). It carried 9.25 thousand flights on 25 routes within Kazakhstan and to the border cities of Russia.
This is a very powerful operational result, taking into account the fact that the carrier, which operates turboprop regional jets, did not decrease the pace of development even in the coveted 2020. As a result, the number of passengers served increased by 50% compared to the pre-crisis year (380,000 passengers in 2019).
The success was achieved by opening new routes and increasing frequency on existing routes. The target capacity of the new route network with the previously created interregional hub in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, has been achieved. International flights to Russia were launched: to Omsk, Novosibirsk and Kazan, which became popular among Kazakhstanis and Russians, the airline said. At the end of December 2021 a new flight to Yekaterinburg was added to them.
Subsidized flights to Balkhash, Usharal, Karaganda, Petropavlovsk and Taldykorgan were opened with government support.
Qazaq Air's small fleet is the youngest among Kazakhstan's airlines and consists of five Canadian-made De Havilland Dash-8-Q400NG turboprops (previously known as Bombardier Q400).
To ensure intensive operation of the aircraft it has its own certified maintenance station. All Qazaq Air jets are registered in Kazakhstan and have a renewed aircraft registration prefix - UP.
Last year another IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) was successfully completed.
Not stopping with the achieved results, in the current year the airline started flights from Turkestan to Uralsk, Aktobe, Kostanay, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar. Flights on the Atyrau-Uralsk route were resumed.
