2021 was a record year for Air Astana group of airlines

Created on 11.02.2022 10:48

Passenger traffic of low-cost airline FlyArystan in two years reached the volume of full-service Air Astana.

The active development of low-cost flights allowed the leader of Kazakhstan's market, Air Astana Group, to serve a record number of passengers in 2021 and exceed pre-crisis figures by almost a third.

"The growth in passenger traffic testifies to the confident recovery of our operational activity, which suffered due to COVID-19 in 2020, and is the best result since the existence of the airline. This is primarily due to the performance of FlyArystan, whose passenger traffic has reached Air Astana's volume in two years thanks to budget fares, predominantly for Kazakhstan, and a super-competitive cost structure. FlyArystan is firmly on its way to fulfilling its main mission of increasing the mobility of the Kazakhstani people within the country," said Peter Foster, president of Air Astana.

During the year, Air Astana launched new scheduled flights to Batumi, Podgorica, Colombo and Phuket and resumed flights to London, Delhi, Tbilisi and Dushanbe after flights were suspended in 2020. FlyArystan began flying to Kutaisi from three cities in Kazakhstan and also opened 10 domestic destinations.

In 2021, the group carried 12 thousand tons of cargo on scheduled routes and 6.7 thousand tons on charters, which is 30 and 45% higher than in 2020, respectively.

Air Astana has also passed another IOSA operational safety audit and for the first time conducted heavy maintenance of C-check Airbus A321 aircraft at its technical base in Nur-Sultan.

Three more Airbus A321LRs are expected to be delivered this year.

Like for all carriers in Kazakhstan, 2022 year started not easy for Air Astana - in the country the state of emergency was temporarily imposed due to the mass unrest. In the period from 5 to 12 January the group canceled 178 international and 621 domestic flights. By now the route network has been fully restored.
