American Airlines has converted an option for 30 medium-haul Boeing 737MAX-8 aircraft into a firm order, while agreeing with the manufacturer to delay delivery of the long-haul, wide-body B-787s to a later date.
The American airline explained that at the moment part of the option has been converted into a firm order - 23 units; seven more B-737-8s will be ordered during this year. An equal number of aircraft (15 units each) will be delivered in 2022 and 2023.
Simultaneously with placing an order for MAX American agreed with the manufacturer to shift the deadline for part of the supply of long-haul Boeing 787-9 from the beginning of January 2023 to the fourth quarter of the same year. The airline will take delivery of four B-787-9s in 2023; the schedule of other deliveries under the contract concluded in 2008 is scheduled until 2027. The order includes 43 B-787s: 30 B-787-8s and 13 B-787-9s. The airline plans to resume deliveries of the Dreamliner this spring after a nearly two-year hiatus to fix manufacturing defects.
