The Russian Aeroflot has equipped 34 aircrafts with high-speed wireless Internet access in 2021. The Airbus A350 and A320 aircrafts have been equipped with satellite dishes that transmit the signal. To get online, a passenger should join the onboard Wi-Fi network via a laptop, tablet or smartphone, then select and pay for access package.
The minimum tariff is $5 and includes only Whatsapp, iMessage, WeChat, Viber messengers to send and receive text messages. The maximum tariff includes a traffic of 200 Mb and costs $60. For comparison, a 500 MB package on all the Turkish Airlines flights costs $25, while Lufthansa package costs $20 on long-haul routes.
At the moment, Aeroflot is the only Russian air carrier that provides high-speed Internet access during the flight. The airline intends to provide the entire fleet with antennas for transmitting Internet traffic. However, the exact timing of the project is not known.
