The Indian leading company Air India has changed the ownership: the private Tata Group completed the acquisition of airline from the Indian government. Therefore, the circle was completed and the Tata family who founded the airline in 1932 became the owner.
"We will do our best to make Air India the global airline company," Natarajan Chandrasekaran said, the Tata Sons' Chairman.
In addition, the Tata Group was awarded by the Indian government related to the national carrier's privatization in October 2021. Under the deal terms, Tata acquires 100% shareholding in both Air India and the low-fare division of Air India Express, along with 50% shareholding of ground handling provider AISATS (Air India Air Transport Services). On behalf of the group, the deal was made by its member company Talace. Tata Group had also taken over responsibility for Air India's debt, whereby a very small percentage remained to the government.
