Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced that electronic system manufacturer GMR-led DIAL has implemented an electronic boarding  system as part of the government's Digital India campaign. Electronic boarding gates have been opened at Delhi airport. The main reason is to ensure the contactless and unimpeded movement of passengers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All the boarding gates are equipped with contactless electronic robots with boarding pass scanners, allowing passengers to simply bring their boarding pass to the sensor for verification. Passengers who have confirmed their boarding passes can board the flight without presenting their documents again”, message says.

The non-contact procedure minimizes touching surfaces in waiting rooms and interaction with people under COVID-19 conditions, but also reduces boarding times. Initial experience demonstrated that transaction time has been reduced by 50 percent, which led to a shortening the queues and improved the security dimension.
