The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sent out a special information leaflet warning aircraft manufacturers, airport operators and pilots of the potential dangers coming from 5G telecommunications. At the same time, the FAA agreed that there have not yet been proven reports related to harmful interference from wireless broadband at the international level.
The message says that operators "must be aware that interference from 5G transmitters and other technologies can lead to malfunctions of certain systems and equipment so the special measures should be taken to mitigate the consequences that potentially affect the flight operations." It should be noted, pilots continue asking passengers to turn off smartphones and tablets equipped with 5G, or switch them to offline "flight mode".
At the same time, wireless experts do not share the concerns: 5G networks can safely use the C-band spectrum without causing harmful interference to aviation equipment. According to them, the 5G networks operating in this range are endorsed by 40 countries around the world.
