UAE-based Emirates has decided to turn its first decommissioned giant Airbus A380 into custom-made furniture and aviation souvenirs. Released in 2008, the aircraft under the A6-EDA registration and equipped with two full-fledged floors, showers and a bar was decommissioned in 2020. Thus, the aircraft was used for 12 years and operated 6,319 flights.
The contractor's task is to recycle many parts of the aircraft by giving them a second life, including the plating from aluminium, interior items, a bar counter, special insulating materials. Lufthansa has chosen a similar concept for its Airbus A340. Aircraft's elements have become keychains, pieces of furniture and even wall clocks.
The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger aircraft in the world, the largest operator is Emirates. These aircrafts were called palaces with wings. A380s have two full-fledged decks and were able to operate 853 passengers in one flight.
