Hungarian traffic controllers will be working remotely

Created on 05.11.2021 08:30

Budapest Airport named after Franz Liszt (BUD) intends to relocate CT and GCA controllers to a virtual "tower", thereby becoming the first European airport with a remote tower.

Hungarian air navigation service provider HungaroControl has selected the Spanish manufacturer Indra as a provider for remote center. Indra's InNOVA Tower System is already being used for remote control at several Norwegian airports. Indra will supply three systems to Hungary: main (operational), backup and test. The implementation of the project takes two years.

Indra stated the InNOVA Tower System integrates all the information required - visual and functional on a single display, eliminating the need to pay attention between different information sources. The system provides a panoramic view of the airport equipped with a color night vision system and augmented vision elements. The cameras of the airport will be placed in such a way as to give the best comprehensive view of all the locations. Augmented reality will assist controllers to zoom and rotate objects, identify them and automatically track moving objects. The meteorological information will be displayed visually.
