Belgium introduces a new tax for passengers

The Belgian authorities have decided to introduce a new tax for passengers, it will be valid for those passengers who book short flights. Since 2022, a tax has to be paid for all the short flights from Brussels. The new tax ranges from four to six euros and will be applied to all the passengers flying through Brussels airport, Europulse writes.
The tax has to be paid if the destination city is located less than 500 kilometers from the Belgian capital (Amsterdam, London, Paris or Zurich). Thus, the Belgian government intends to reduce the use of an environmentally "dirty" transport. Traveling by train is almost five times more sustainable than operating by aircrafts, according to a recent report from the European Environment Agency (EEA).
