The IATA set new environmental targets

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) set a new environmental target for members: zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. Thus, the association's commitment is becoming the official position on the environmental issue.
Until now, the previous decision to cut emissions in half by 2050 was valid, but several airlines and regional associations such as Airlines for Europe set the high bar. The new goal is unique for the entire industry in the run-up to the ICAO's General Assembly in 2022, where the environmental agenda would be considered a priority.
"There is no reason to completely close borders. Travel does not increase the risk of spreading COVID-19. The IATA has adopted a new policy at a time when airlines are just beginning to hope that the worst that could turn out to be the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Nevertheless, the association predicts the global industry will be restored no earlier than 2023, with the exception of US companies that will be able to gain profit in the next year", said Willie Walsh, General Director of IATA.
