London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is testing a contactless baggage drop-off technology developed by Spanish IT solutions provider Amadeus. New technology, using proximity sensors, allows passengers to check-in their luggage for a flight without touching the screens.

“We've been preparing for travelers and are considering innovative technologies that will ensure safe and efficient experience in a post-covid world. We are delighted to be working with Amadeus in testing the self-service baggage drop-off technology. This is just one of several new initiatives that we introduce in our terminals under the Heathrow Fly Safe Airport Development Program", Mark Burges said, Airport Process Improvement Director.

For several months, Heathrow and Amadeus have been testing various contactless passenger self-service technologies, including Screen Mirroring, enabling passengers to control the ABD section using their mobile device. Moreover, Amadeus has recently delivered a complete contactless solution to 17 airports of Norway, assisting to create a completely contactless service — from check-in to boarding within three months.
