Singapore lifts ban on Boeing 737MAX

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has lifted its ban on the Boeing 737MAX.
The island state was one of the first to respond harshly to the B-737MAX crashes, imposing a ban as early as March 12, 2019, on transit, takeoff and landing of the type, regardless of jurisdiction of registration.
CAAS said the decision to reopen was based on an independent technical review of modifications made by Boeing following the investigation and approved by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as observations of flight operations of the type in operator fleets, where "no clear safety concerns were noted."
The CAAS decision comes just days after a similar move by the aviation authorities in neighboring Malaysia and, prior to that, in India. Now the operation of the type is allowed in 177 countries of the world. China and Russia are the exceptions.
The Singapore national carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) has already trans-ported six B-737-8s from Australia, where the aircraft were being stored. Previously, they were operated by a subsidiary regional airline, SilkAir, which has been reintegrated into the parent company.
