Nur-Sultan and Almaty airports will have to admit independent providers of ground handling services from the beginning of 2022, as reported by inbusiness.kz citing the Protection and Development of Competition Agency of Kazakhstan.
"From January 1, 2022, according to Article 65, paragraph 2 of the Law "On the Use of the Airspace of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Aviation Activities " that stipulates following: when servicing more than 2 million passengers per year, the airport must admit an independent provider of ground handling services. Nur-Sultan and Almaty airports fall under this category", the message says.
According to the agency, this measure will contribute to the development of competition in the field of ground handling services. Currently, airports and airlines provide ground handling services independently. The services include: meeting and check-in of passengers, refueling with aviation fuel, control of aircraft loading, anti-icing treatment, external washing of aircrafts, baggage handling, cleaning of salons and etc.
