Italy's new national carrier, Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA), has received a ticket authorization and flight operation since the State Civil Aviation Authority has granted Alitalia's successor a flight certificate and operating license.
After the bankruptcy of Alitalia in 2017, the airline found itself in a quagmire of a long rescue process: first, Italy was looking for a customer, and after its nationalization at the beginning of the pandemic, the government attempted to reach an agreement with Brussels on the creation of a successor airline. In the end, the approval was obtained this year, but only after "economic discretion" (direct transfer of assets, including aircrafts, the Alitalia brand, maintenance contracts).
In its strategy, the ITA intends to begin operations on October 15 with a fleet of 52 aircrafts. The fleet should grow to 78 aircrafts by 2022 and to 105 aircrafts by the end of 2025. At the beginning of its activity, ITA will operate flights on 61 routes (45 points), by 2025 the network will be expanded to 89 routes (74 points).
