Armenian authorities will create a national low-cost airline based on the model of the large budget airline Air Arabia, UAE. The agreement was signed by representatives of the State Interests Fund of Armenia and Air Arabia. They will become main shareholders of the new enterprise, the ATO portal writes.

The new national airline will facilitate the rapid development of Armenian tourism industry by contributing the economic growth, while providing local citizens with reliable and affordable flights. The new low-cost airline will be located in Yerevan, thereby using the Air Arabia's concept. At the moment, the new carrier's fleet is unknown, along with when and where it starts operating. The State Interests Fund of Armenia stated that they would provide this information later.

Until 2013, Armavia was the national airline of Armenia. However, the air carrier went bankrupt and stopped flying due to financial problems. In order to attract other air carriers to the country and compensate for leaving the Armavia market, Armenian authorities announced the introduction of the "Open Skies", i.e. flight restrictions for foreign airlines were lifted.
