European largest low-cost carrier Ryanair operated its first flight on a Boeing 737MAX. This version of the MAX-8 (sometimes referred to as the B-737MAX-8200) with increased passenger capacity was created specifically for ultra-low-cost airlines. By the end of the summer, Ryanair expects to obtain ten aircrafts of 210 ordered, according to the news agency ATO.

The commissioning of the new type has been long and difficult stage for company. The airline intended to operate aircrafts in April 2019. According to the updated schedule, another 50 aircrafts will be delivered by the summer of 2022. Ryanair called the MAX-8200 a revolutionary aircraft: passenger capacity is 4% more than predicted, fuel efficiency is 16% more (per seat) while reducing noise and emissions by 40% compared to the previous generation.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had certified the modified version of the MAX-8 in early April. A difference in requirements for European and American authorities had been flouted by the EASA's certificate that allows the carriage of 202 passengers (a total of 207 people, including crew members), and the FAA allows to install up to 212 seats in the cabin. However, the total number of people on board will not exceed 207 passengers due to the limited ventilation system.
