The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts an increase in the time spent by passengers at airports to eight hours if digital vaccination passports are not accepted, Tengritravel.kz writes with reference to Travel Daily Media.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, passengers on average spent approximately 1.5 hours for check-in, border control, customs and getting luggage. Currently, airports are uploaded by 30 percent compared to pre-COVID-19. IATA simulated the situation and, according to its forecasts, when the airport will be loaded by 75 percent, then passengers would spend 5.5 hours at the airport; by100 percent - 8 hours appropriately.

“Without an automated solution to verify the status of COVID-19, we're risking to get significant airport failures. No one will tolerate hours of waiting at check-in or border formalities. We have to automate the vaccine and PCR test verification until passenger traffic increases. Technical solutions already exist such as digital certificates of vaccination. However, digital certificate procedures should be mutually agreed upon by governments", said Willie Walsh, IATA CEO.
