ICAO has developed specifications for vaccination validation

The ICAO has published technical conditions (specifications) for applying so-called VDS (Visible Digital Seal), presenting a bar code for storing and validating the passenger's health status related to COVID-19 (test results, vaccination and etc.), the ATO writes.

The new VDS specifications are intended to improve the efficiency of validation processes (passenger health status) and prevent the fraudulent activities. VDS barcodes can be presented on paper or on the device screen and can be read by border control officials or other services. The technology is also suitable for self-service check-in machines.

The VDS Implementation Guide has been developed jointly with ICAO member countries and adopted by the ICAO's Council Aviation Recovery Taskforce (CART) in March 2021. ICAO will host regional webinars over the next few weeks in order to bring VDS usage awareness to national governing bodies and provide assistance in the early implementation stages.
