Indonesia, being the sixth largest global aviation market, is preparing to launch a new low-cost startup called the Super Air Jet. The airline has already received the IATA code (IU) in March this year. Currently, the company is completing formal procedures before commercial flights, ATO writes.
According to local media reports, the airline will be headed by Ari Azhari, who previously held one of the management positions at Lion Air. In addition, Super Air Jet is also affiliated with the Lion Air Group by ownership structure. The airline will provide direct domestic flights, then consider a launch of international routes.
The company's fleet will include ten Airbus A320s equipped with 180 economy class seats. Air Jet will obtain aircrafts previously operated by Indian low-cost carrier Indigo. Leasing contracts for the first aircrafts have already been signed.
