Low-cost airline Wizz Air has decided to give its pilots the Apple iPads, thus maintaining 600 trees from deforestation annually. Therefore, the airline decided to eliminate paper-based crew documentation by digitizing all the documents into e-format.
As a result, requirements for paper supplies will be decreased by 6 million pages per year. The iPad will include maps, documents and reference manuals. At the same time, the device information will be constantly updated, thus pilots would receive up-to-date information before departure in e-type.
Using the iPad, Wizz Air will develop economically by reducing the aircraft mass. According to the airline's press service, lack of enormous paper directories on board will enable to save 4,500 tons of fuel annually.
Moreover, iPad will be given to the pilots since completing their basic management system training. Wizz Air intends to completely abandon paper supplies by the end of 2021.
