From April 1, 2021, Willie Walsh has officially become the CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), replacing Alexander de Juniac in this position, according to the news agency ATO.
His appointment may lead to IATA's proactive and revolutionary positions on industry issues related to the recovery from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Walsh has a reputation as an uncompromising fighter, his long-standing membership has led to the development of IATA, although not always supporting the general line. He is known for his innovative business perspectives such as low-cost companies. Apparently, low-cost airlines would strengthen its role in IATA.
“More than 4 billion travelers rely on aviation industry annually under normal circumstances, and the challenge of delivering vaccines has highlighted the importance of efficient aviation. Airlines are committed to providing safe, efficient and sustainable services. My task is to provide IATA with powerful voice supporting the success of global air transport,” said Willie Walsh.
