According to the report of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), one third of the world's countries are completely closed to foreign tourists, especially strict restrictions exist in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, Interfax writes.
Reportedly, 69 of 217 destinations are completely closed. Of these, 30 destinations are located in the Asia-Pacific region, 15 destinations are in Europe, 11are in Africa, 10 are in North and South America, and three directions are in the Middle East. At the same time, 34% of countries are partially closed. As the UNWTO stated, an increasing number of countries are requiring the incoming travelers to have a PCR test for COVID-19 and / or provide a route information for contact tracing, frequently combined with quarantine. Such requirements are operated in 32 states.
“Before the current pandemic, travel restrictions were widely used to limit the spread of the virus. Now it is time to gradually resume the tourism industry, we must admit that these restrictions need to be constantly reviewed, pointing to the latest infection data. Otherwise, the industry would collapse by exposing millions of people involved in", said Zurab Pololikashvili, the UNWTO's General Secretary.
