The New Year begins on March 14

On March 14, western regions of Kazakhstan celebrate the Qorisy kuni or Amal meiramy. On March 15, Atyrau branch employees of the RSE "Kazaeronavigatsia" were dressed in traditional clothing to congratulate ourselves on this significant holiday. Traditionally, this holiday is filled with warmth and mutual caring.

On the eve of Nauryz, people who have not seen each other throughout the year, are gathering at festive table and wish each other all the best (they say: “Let this year be a happiest for us” (“Zhasynyz kaiuyrly bolsyn!”, “Bir zhasynyzben!”, “Zhas kutty bolsyn!”) and those who had quarreled before are seeking forgiveness. This practice is only widespread in the Atyrau, Mangystau, West Kazakhstan regions, as well as in some districts of the Aktobe region. On this day, people are coming to see their older relatives. Moreover, the younger ones should have time to greet all the relatives during 10 days, thereby asking for their blessings.

Since ancient times, the people have considered the highest esteem to greet the oldest person in aul (village). Usually, older persons shake hands, women touch each other firstly with their right and then with their left shoulders.
