The decline in passenger traffic of 2020 has led the London Heathrow Airport to introduce a "pandemic tax", Tengritravel.kz writes with reference to the ATOR.
Since April, passengers departing from London airport, regardless of the flight duration and flight class, are obliged to pay an additional fee of 8.90 pounds (approximately 5,173 tenge). This amount will be included in the ticket price. Thus, the airport is attempting to compensate for the lost profit of the previous year.
Currently, Kazakhstan citizens are able to fly to the UK via Frankfurt by providing a present certificate with a negative PCR test result and accompanying documents for further travel. Citing international experts, the publication also notes that other European airports would use this practice.
