Italpol has presented a project related to the training service of its dogs and identifying passengers infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus at Rome's Fiumicino airport , Interfax reported.
The company held a dog demonstration at one of the terminals in the arrival zone. In the future, they intend to use these dogs at demonstrations, as well as in operational activities with passengers. Italpol explained the training lasting from six to eight weeks to teach a dog by smell to identify people who could be infected with COVID-19. One of the advantages of this method is the dog can quickly identify a potential patient, even if he does not have any symptoms.
The idea of using dogs to determine whether a person is sick with coronavirus is not new: it was implemented not only in Italy, but also in France and Finland. The principle of training is that persons with the COVID-19 have a special smell, which can be identified by dogs with a good scent. The goal of the dog handler is to ensure that the dog could react to this particular smell and clearly could detect a potential sick person.
