American airport launches a social distance control system

Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI) has announced the launch of a pilot project in implementing innovative technologies for monitoring social distance at security checkpoints. The technological support of the project, including a laser detection and ranging system (lidar), special software is provided by the airport's partner CrowdVision.

Technologies provide tracking, analyzing and providing information on the physical distance in the passenger and baggage screening zones. The system also informs customers about the adequate distance between them and warns of violations. According to the BWI, sensors based on lidar technology will analyze the relocation of passengers in security checkpoint, counting the number of persons, as well as measuring a speed and detecting the direction of their displacement.

Airports using the CrowdVision technology for monitoring social distance are London City, Miami International Airport, New York City Airport. John F. Kennedy and others.
