Central European low-cost airline Wizz Air is preparing to issue its first batch of EUR 500 million bonds to further strengthen its liquidity.
In September 2020, Wizz Air President Jozsef Varadi announced that his airline had enough liquidity to survive two years without carrying a single passenger. The Hungarian airline responded aggressively to the challenges of the pandemic, capturing niches left by other airlines and using all the opportunities for growth where others companies had retreated. On January 15, a new project was launched in the UAE - Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. The startup began operating scheduled flights from Abu Dhabi to Athens, as well as it will launch flights to Thessaloniki and Tel Aviv from February.
The pandemic delayed the launch of the Wizz Air Abu Dhabi project for three months from the original schedule. The company intends to expand the route network, operating the Airbus A321neo fleet to Alexandria (Egypt), Kutaisi (Georgia), Larnaca (Cyprus), Odessa (Ukraine) and Yerevan (Armenia).
