Montenegro Airlines has ceased operating

The national air carrier of Montenegro Montenegro Airlines stated on their termination of operations since December 26. The reason for this protest was the decision of the country's government to stop financing the airline and its liquidation due to multimillion-dollar losses, according to the Tourist portal.

Montenegro authorities had discussed several options regarding the carrier's rescue, including the public allocation in the amount of 150 million euros, but in the end, they resolved to liquidate Montenegro Airlines and create a new air carrier instead. The new carrier might be created by the end of 2021, the cost of this project will be 50 million euros, almost three times cheaper than it would be required to support the existing national airline.

Montenegro Airlines was established in 1994. Its fleet had four aircrafts: three Embraer 195 and one Fokker 100. The best year for the company was 2019 when it served a record number of passengers 657,300 passengers.
