The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a COVID-19 vaccine for pilots and air traffic controllers, produced by the American pharmaceutical concern Pfizer. The approval procedure was carried out in an expedited manner, so that, if needed, the vaccination does not contradict the medical requirements for aviation personnel and could be included in the relevant approvals, the ATO agency writes.
The FAA required the pilots and controllers to refrain from work responsibilities for 48 hours after the vaccination, thereby monitoring their condition in case of adverse effects. The Pfizer vaccine is composed of two parts: 21 days apart, and two days of monitoring is required after each part. The administration recalled that this requirement is valid for any vaccination.
"The FAA does not imply the use of an additional waiting period for side effects. However, its medical staff will continuously monitor a vaccine distribution, thereby documenting all the clinical results in order to amend requirements as needed," the service said.
