Singapore Airlines (SIA) is the first global airline which has started testing a new digital medical certificate based on developing of the IATA Travel Pass. The digital certificate allows passengers to provide information on a medical report for COVID-19 or vaccinations as a QR code based on the Timatic module, created by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the news agency ATO writes.
Since December 23, the Singapore airline is testing the system's functionality on flights from Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta to Singapore. If the experience is successful, the practice will be extended on the carrier's route network. Passengers who passed the test for COVID-19 at approved clinics of Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur, they will receive a relevant paper or digital certificate with a QR code that can be scanned by the Singapore Immigration Service using a mobile app.
SIA stated that this is the fastest and safest approach for validating relevant information. As the COVID-19 tests and vaccination certificates would become "an integral part of air travel in the near future," the airline also intends to integrate validation into its own mobile app from mid-2021.
