Another startup airline enters the Vietnamese market: Vietravel Airline, founded by the eponymous travel agency has received its first Airbus A321. On December 4, the aircraft was delivered at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (IATA code: SGN) in Ho Chi Minh. This vehicle was previously operated in the Condor's fleet, the German tourist carrier.
Besides, the company has already signed a contract for the A321LR extended-range aircraft, previously operated by the Israel airline Arkia. Vietravel intends to expand its fleet to five aircrafts over the next five years. Regional carriers prefer narrow-body aircrafts of the Airbus A320 family, so the new airline has no problems in recruiting staff.
In early 2020, the Civil Aviation Agency of Vietnam (CAAV) has announced they would stop licensing new carriers before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, CAAV has made an exception for Vietravel: in July, after a comprehensive review of the airline's business plan, the authorities issued a license, resulting in first commercial flight which is scheduled for December 18.
