Seoul presented unmanned flying taxis

Created on 19.11.2020 08:35

For the first time, unmanned flying taxis and postal drones were presented in South Korea.

Reportedly, the event was jointly organized by the South Korean Ministry of Transport and the mayor's office of the main city. Testing flights were held on the river embankment in a prestigious business district, where the small aerodrome used to be. Previously, similar experiences were carried out in unpopulated areas of the republic.

Engineers presented the EH216 two-seater drone equipped by 16 propellers. The vehicle successfully took off, made several circles over the river in seven minutes and landed at the same place. At the same time, there were small postal drones in the air. Flight control and coordination were handled successfully through the K-drone system, created by local experts. It ensures the safety location of several drones in the air, controlling their height, speed and flight direction.

Taxi drones take off and land vertically. Vehicles are capable of carrying five people at a time. The speed might reach 300 km / h. Authorities believe that the presence of a new transport type would reduce the air pollution: devices will be operated on electric motors. Expectedly, flying drones will be cheaper than an ordinary taxi. The full-fledged project on operating the unmanned air taxis is scheduled for 2028.
